Like many homeowners, you probably have a furry friend resting indoors, so you've had your fair share of encounters with hair throughout the day. However, as normal as this can seem, cleaning it never stops being a challenging chore, especially when it comes to carpets.

Even if you have your trusty vacuum cleaner to help, fur could still remain stuck on your carpet. Luckily, other more effective methods do wonders for cleaning hair from carpets! Read on to find out about them.

How to remove dog hair from carpets

Efficiently cleaning dog hair is a matter of loosening and gathering all the fur for easy removal, but carpets carry a lot of static, which can make it more difficult.

However, cleaning the hair becomes much easier if you work to remove the static, and these two methods have proven to be highly effective!

Method #1. Rubber Squeegee

Something as simple as a squeegee is an easy and effective alternative for a vacuum cleaner! Since rubber is great for dealing with static that keeps hairs attached to the carpet, loosening up the fur is way easier.

The best part? This method is incredibly easy—just grab your squeegee, a broom, and a dustpan! Follow the two steps below:

  • Step 1: Push your squeegee over the whole carpet from one side to the other, gathering the hair in one spot only.
  • Step 2: This is where the broom and dustpan come in. Simply sweep the hair, and that's it! Easy, right?

Pro tip: If you don't own a squeegee, rubber gloves work just as well (only with a little more time and effort). To use them, sweep your hands over the carpet and catch the hairs on your palms. Just remember to be patient!

Method #2. Fabric softener

To no one's surprise, fur clinging to the fabric can get pretty stubborn. Luckily, fabric softener has chemicals that remove this electric charge that may be giving your carpet trouble, making vacuuming effortless!

Using fabric softener to help loosen up hair is really simple! You just need a spray bottle, fabric softener, and your trusty vacuum cleaner to follow these instructions:

  • Step 1: Mix three parts water and one part fabric softener in a spray bottle.
  • Step 2: Lightly spray the mixture over the whole carpet—just be careful not to overdo it; otherwise, the fabric softener will only work to clog the carpet!
  • Step 3: Give the solution a few minutes to dry and work to remove the static charge before cleaning.
  • Step 4: Once the fabric softener has dried, the static will have been removed, and you can easily vacuum the carpet, removing the loose hair.
